After a long career in Law Enforcement, I retired and found myself traveling as often as I could. I had just returned from taking 81 people on a 15-day cruise to Hawaii and I organized all of the group’s activities — pre, during and post. After seeing my people and organizational skills, and enjoying numerous planned activities during the cruise, many of the attendees in my group encouraged me to become a Travel Agent and share my wealth of knowledge about travel! You see, this was not my first group. I had been planning group vacations for 10 years… for free.
It was actually serendipitous that I became a Travel Agent. After getting back from the aforementioned 15-day Hawaii cruise, I was attending an outdoor beach music event where various vendors had set up a booth to promote their wares. One such vendor was a cell service that encouraged me to put “my name in the hat” for a prize drawing at the end of the day. As luck would have it, mine was one of two names drawn and I was selected to dig in a sand pit with buried cash and could keep my findings. Would you believe that I dug up the exact amount needed to attend the Cruises Inc. travel agent training? It’s true and two weeks later in June of 2012, I was in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. attending training to become an independent vacation specialist with Cruises Inc.
A little over a year later I was named “Rookie of the Year” and thus began my second career. I have found that my fellow Law Enforcement friends as well as their families and friends would prefer to book their travel arrangements with a fellow “LEO.” Trust is what brings them to me and dedicated service is what keeps them loyal.
Cruises Inc. is a perfect fit for me. Because we like to travel, there is an entire support team to back me up when needed. Additionally, I can call on fellow agents to cover for me whenever needed and I do the same for them! It’s a terrific network of dedicated professionals who are always willing to lend a hand.
For anyone wanting to follow in the same path, there is a wealth of support, marketing, training (both online and in person) to support your efforts. Everyone is so supportive and never makes you feel like you are asking a “stupid” question.
My bucket list includes going on a River cruise …hopefully soon!
