John Gawne, Navy Veteran and Travel Agent

Naval Officer John Gawne has vast experiences in banking, IT and education, but he decided to follow his passion and have the flexibility of being his own boss by becoming an independent vacation specialist with Cruises Inc.

How did you transition from your prior occupation to starting a travel business…and what did that transition look like? Did any of your previous skills carry over?
I had recently been downsized from my job and needed income as soon as possible.  I previously learned about Cruises Inc. from an existing agent and knew it was an opportunity I would be interested in in the future, so I had kept all the information on file. After being laid off, I decided I wanted to go into business for myself.  I had cruised 15 times by then and loved to travel so starting a home-based career with Cruises Inc. seemed like a natural move.  The training offered by headquarters coupled with the low start-up cost that an out-of-work person could afford is what really excited me and helped me to get started. I had always preferred to work independently in prior careers, and this fit me perfectly.  I had my first group within two months and was named “Rookie of the Year” my first year.  I have been able to remain among the top 10-15 in sales for most of my 13 years.

What do you like best about being part of Cruises Inc.?
The training and commitment of headquarters to support the agents. The independence to run my own business at my own pace, with no boss!

Advice for somebody thinking of joining the Cruises Inc. business opportunity.
Talk to several Cruises Inc. agents to get their input and recommendations prior to committing to join. It can be a full-time or part-time endeavor, or a planned stepping stone for someone thinking about a franchise with Dream Vacations/CruiseOne.

What is the best part about the support you get from Cruises Inc.?
The quick response from Support Services, our websites, and e-marketing programs like our weekly e-savers.

What’s on your bucket list?
Having already been to 56 countries, there are not many on my list.  I would like to visit the wine country of Chile and Argentina, perhaps a South African river cruise/safari, and perhaps another, longer visit to the islands of Tahiti.
